Masaka Central Market became a hub of community service and public health action as students from the 5th Guild of Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSAT), in partnership with the Red Cross Society of Uganda, carried out a community outreach under the theme “Service Beyond the Hospital.”
The outreach featured a community clean-up exercise, health education sessions on Ebola prevention, and a blood donation drive aimed at improving community wellbeing and supporting healthcare services. Through these activities, students demonstrated that healthcare extends beyond treatment facilities and into everyday actions that protect and empower communities.
The initiative directly contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being by promoting disease prevention and supporting blood donation; SDG 4: Quality Education through public health awareness; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through environmental cleanliness; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between EQUSAT, the Red Cross Society of Uganda, and the local community.
The outreach reflects EQUSAT’s commitment to producing socially responsible leaders who use knowledge and service to create lasting impact beyond the classroom.
