EQUSaT’s Bold Steps Towards A Sustainable Future

Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) is steadily weaving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its main goals positioning itself not just as a center of academic excellence, but as a beacon of community transformation.

From June to December 2024, EQUSaT launched a series of initiatives under its SDGs Line of Action. It began with sports visits and tours around the Greater Masaka Region, Western Region and to Kampala were students interacted with different communities.

The university’s momentum surged with a number of Dental Seminars in collaboration with the Build Your Smile Dental Foundation Uganda. With innovation at the forefront, students and professionals explored advancements in oral care, fortifying Uganda’s journey toward better health and well-being.

EQUSaT also hosted a number of Youth Empowerment Programs. The events became a Launchpad for ideas on entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation, with Helping Hands for Relief and Development (HHRD) and other prominent figures discussing different topics relates to Sustainability.

To empower students, the Mr. and Miss EQUSaT Charity Drive on September 7 brought aid and warmth to Kigamba, Kasijjagirwa, and nearby villages. On a different front, the Dental Camp, running from September 25 to October 5, offered life-changing oral care to underserved communities.

Others events like the Prof. Mukiibi Run, the Blood Donation Drive for Masaka Hospital, and community football matches that reinforced fitness, fun, and unity. On the global stage, EQUSaT made its mark — from the African University Network in Leiden to the SQAfrica Forum in Accra — where the Vice Chancellor championed partnerships rooted in the SDGs.

EQUSaT signed memoranda of understanding with Sudan International University and Africa International University, to provide academic refuge to students displaced by the conflict — a gesture of continental solidarity that fosters global collaboration.
